Streeting the Hague

The Hague is a very very very pretty city. It has 450,000 people and half of them are expatriates attached to embassies, UN offices, world peace courts and a few global headquarters, including Shell. The Hague IS NOT the capital of the Netherlands (Amsterdam is), but it is the government administrative centre. The parliament, said to be the oldest in the world (1670's) is in the heart of the city and people are free to walk/cycle within the parliament's compound.

With this, the market tends to fill this kind of customers with shop staff speaking English, many kinds of food available and serving the middle to upper class...which suit us just fine. Despite its small population, the large retailers are within a short walking distance of each other. Even UK retailers have started to open here - Marks & Spencer and Primark.
We have cycled in many cities in the Netherlands and I have to say, the Hague is the one with the most comprehensive and separated bike lanes. This makes for easy and safe cycling to go from places to places.
